Renewal Network?

The Indiana-Kentucky Renewal Network (I-K R.N.) is a network of faithful pastors and laypeople— all members of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod who love the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)—dedicated to renewing the ELCA in the traditional teachings of the Bible, of the Church universal, and of the Lutheran Confessions.

Is This A Divisive ‘Single Issue’ Group?

No! The I-K Renewal Network has four primary concerns and goals:

1. To uphold the authority of the Bible as the primary source and norm of faith and practice, in conformity with the Lutheran Confessions and the Constitution of the ELCA.
2. To insist upon the priority of the revealed name of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in worship and educational materials produced by and for the ELCA.
3. To uphold the doctrine of marriage of one man and one woman for life, as maintained by the Church through out the centuries.
4. To encourage, recruit, network and cooperate with leaders in congregations, conferences, the I-K Synod, other synods, and the church-wide organization, including bishops, who commit to these goals.

How Did The I-K Renewal Network Come Into Existence?

The I-K RN was started by three I-K Synod pastors. Very concerned for the future of the ELCA, they attended the Coalition For Reform (CORE) Conference in Lindenhurst, IL, on September 28, 2007. There they discovered that a grassroots movement is spreading in every region of the ELCA, dedicated to renewing and reforming the ELCA according to its Confessional and Biblical roots. Upon returning, they invited pastors and lay people to an open meeting November 1st in Fishers, IN, to learn about the grassroots movement. The I-K Renewal Network was launched at that meeting.

How Is The I-K Renewal Network Organized?

A Leadership Team comprised of volunteer Lay and Clergy Representatives recruited from every Conference in the I-K Synod leads the Network. An Executive Team leads the Network and carries out the decisions of the Leadership Team between Leadership Team meetings.

What is CORE? What Is The Relationship Between CORE & The
I-K Renewal Network?

CORE (Coalition for Reform) is an umbrella organization for individuals and groups throughout the ELCA who are dedicated to reforming the ELCA according the four emphases above. The I-K Renewal Network is committed to cooperating and coordinating with CORE, while also remaining independent of it. For more information on CORE, visit CORE’s website at www.lutherancore.org.
